I was provided the opportunity to get involved with the revival of the Bristol Recorder, primarily as a photographer but also organising and helping out with interviews. The Bristol Recorder is a vinyl compilation record of Bristol music and accompanying magazine which started in the late 1970's, with the next issue coming out this April. It provides a snapshot of Bristol, celebrating all that makes Bristol great, from its music, culture and businesses. As my first professional experience, I was kindly allowed the freedom to chose my own style and generate original ideas for shoots. Furthermore, I was able to shoot primarily on 35mm film, with the occasional use of digital photography when necessary, allowing me to develop a trust with the editors and confidence in my own ability. Although film photography can be an expensive venture, especially on an unpaid project, I believe it was worthwhile to provide authentic images with a style to match the vinyl accompayning the magazine.
